The Word of the Day Is.... [Whining and Complaining]
&%@#!!! ( Something unfit for the family show I strive for here at the home of the Winged Creature)
I got my taxes done today. We owe the IRS $2000. It's enough to turn a person into a Republican! Well, okay, no, it's not...but it almost is. When The Hub had unemployment income they didn't take any tax out but it is taxable and that caused our problem. So, since I don't exactly have $2000 just laying around, tomorrow I'll call the IRS and find out what our options are. The tax preparer said they have payment plans and that they even take credit cards.....not that I'm about to charge my income taxes!! More like let me see if I can come sell $2000 worth of stuff on ebay in 10 days. I bet I can. I bet if I really set my mind to it I can come up with that money without even filing for an extension.
This wouldn't be nearly as upsetting if the jeep hadn't just needed $600 worth of work...but, you know, brakes are important. You're gonna want to have those if you're driving around.
In other bad news, my mom is going to have to go into the hospital this week. She needs a stronger heart medication, but she does not take medication well, so the doctor wants her to stay where he can see her. I'm glad that he is so concerned, though I can understand why she doesn't want to go into the hospital. I mean, who does? Why can't they have something like "senior observation centers" where senior citizens can go and watch t.v. and chat with their friends and play games while they get their blood preasure monitored or whatever? Of course, all the senior citizens I know would probably gang up and heckle the staff all day....so maybe thats why no such thing exists.
There are very few people that I feel that, if given the opportunity, I could and would beat severely about the head and shoulders but my mother's previous doctor is one of those people. Mom had symptoms indicating her problem for YEARS and all that turkey ever did was give her a medication for high blood preasure which she didn't need.
He also gave her high blood preasure. He and his staff were so rude, unprofessional, and just plain unkind - yes, that would be Dr. John Middleton! - that my mother, who has the patience of Job, FINALLY went to see someone else. She's not a doormat after all - she's just a really calm person....but every time she came back from over there she'd be so mad she looked like she was ready to have a stroke. And now that I realize she COULD have had a stroke - ARRRGGGHHH.
Great. So now I have all this free floating rage and I have to get on the phone with the IRS tomorrow.
I sure hope I don't wind up in jail or something.
I've owed more than I had in the past. I simply sent in the 1040 form, with no check. A nice fellow from the IRS called me, and we worked out a payment plan. They really can be pretty decent to deal with, so long as you actually get around to dealing with them. I guess they figure that they know where to find you, if you don't pay, so the IRS is pretty sure that they're going to get their money!

Wiggle and I went through this when we first bought the house we're in and the realtor said we'd have such a big deduction that we could cut way back on taxes...So we did. And we ended up owing $6,000. Talk about a shock! Needless to say we didn't have that kind of cash lying around but we were bailed out luckily by taking a loan on our life insurance policy, which we will be paying back for a loooooong time.

H&R Block told us to just send in the forms and worry about payment later. WRONG! As Will was signing the forms and watching "Good Morning America" the next morning, the tax consultant on the show was exlaining about a form to be filled out if you owed and wanted a payment plan and the amount of the first payment that needed to accompany the 1040 forms. Will went to get the form at H&R Block and I think it took more than 3 people to figure out what he needed and to find the form! We never used them again! (We ended up borrowing from my 401K plan and then I paid it back through payroll deduction.) We almost were in bigger trouble with possible fines AND taxes to pay. I learned how to do the taxes and have been doing them ever since. I love TurboTax! You are wise to contact the IRS before you send in the forms and find out exactly what you need to do to set up a plan, if that is what you need. At the time I understood you could only set up a payment plan once. Good luck!
Goooo big Ebay seller!
You can do it!
