"...for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter..." --Ecclesiastes 10:20

Who is this mysterious winged creature? Light hearted as the air, she laughes at world, the wise, and herself - but watch out if you tread on the humble or the meek. You may find This Winged Creature has told the matter...

Don't Try This at Home [Whining and Complaining]

Okay. My photographs are, for the most part ready for the gallery show. The Hub and I should be there. We might be on opposite sides of the room as a divorcing couple, but we'll be there.

I didn't want to bother The Hub with matting and / or framing my stuff since he has enough to do with his own stuff. Also, I went inexpensive all the way with pre-cut mat board wherever possible....thinking these photos are either going to stand or fall on their own. But, I can afford to think that way. Photography is definately a hobby for me, and there is no way it is ever going to be any more than that. For The Hub, it's a little different. Granted, he's not like some of the folks in the guild ( and we do have some very talented folks in the guild) who have been professional or are launching their professional careers. But he does take his reputation as a fine woodworker very seriously....and just can't bring himself to put his work into the black metal frames that I'm using because they're cheap. Also, he has dreamed of having his work in a gallery for years: this has been his "serious hobby" since college, and he does have some very nice pieces to offer.....

so he's taking a much different approach, custom matting and framing everything.

Meanwhile, I'm up at the dining room table trying to keep the ever curious Wintston from sliming the frames. There is nothing asethically appealing about a nose print in the middle of any photograph. Consequently, I ruined one of my photos when a piece of adhesive got attached to it as I rescued something else from certain slobber. Naturally, the photograph that was ruined was my favorite.

And, of course, the deadline LOOMS LARGE. There's nothing worse than trying to do detail work in a hurry. It's a receipe for disaster and a quarrel with your spouse. How is it that something that is as great an opportunity as having a gallary show has turned into something we can't wait to have over with?

Life is weird.

"How is it that something that is as great an opportunity as having a gallary show has turned into something we can't wait to have over with?"

Lynn, my long time and dear friend, sit down with me in private sometime and I'll tell you some stories over a few homemade Zombies.

To borrow a favorite quote:

"The natural condition is one of insurmountable obstacles on the road to imminent disaster."

"So what do we do?"

"Nothing. Strangely enough, it all turns out well."

"How?"

"I don't know. It's a mystery."

As with any major project, everything always seems on the brink of complete and utter failure up to the moment when suddenly, you're done and everything's OK. As I've said, I'm looking forward to the show, but I'll be glad when I'm no longer planning and preparing for it. It's a lot of work, especially when we've had to figure a lot of things out as we go.

As with any project, the pressure builds as the end nears -- especially when there's a hard and fast deadline.

We're all going to come out the better for this experience, even if we don't sell a single print, for we will all have learned at least one thing in the process.
