Commuting Upstream [Whining and Complaining]
“I’m sorry I was late for work,” I told my boss, “I got stuck a really large boat full of animals, just drifting on down the road.”
She smiled. “Tell me about it. I have to leave early. We have to evacuate. I have to go rescue my cats.”
She wasn’t kidding – the part of Laurel where she lives was being evacuated due to the heavy rains and flooding.
Whoever is doing the rain dance: you can stop now.
Personally, I’m a little worried about getting home. Last night it was no picnic with lots of standing water in the road, but I’m sure it hasn’t gotten any better. In the dark, you don’t see it as you come up to it. You can’t tell if it’s moving or not. So I’m mentally going over all the places where the streams might overflow their banks, and if I see the roadway is covered I’m just going to assume that’s fast moving water too deep for me to cross. Then I’ll be home late, which is upsetting to my husband and the dog. Of course, I think it would be upsetting to more people if I got washed away down a creek – at the very least, a hassle from an insurance angle.
Well, we were headed for a drought, so I guess we’re saved from that, though I don’t imaging flooding is ideal for crops either. They don’t grow much rice in the County.
They say it’s going to stop, at least for a little bit, tomorrow. I guess it has to stop eventually….otherwise, I guess it’ll be back to the animals on the boat thing.
I just drove back from Rockville, and it wasn't too bad. Just take it easy, and you should be okay. The PT is heavier than The Mouse, so you may even have an easier time of it than I did.
