Bad Behavior in a County Town [Whining and Complaining]
Somebody ran over a cat. At least I guess they did...because there was an dead cat in our front yard, with no marks or signs of illness. The Hub and I are guessing that somebody hit the poor thing and tossed it up onto our lawn, given the angle and position in which it was lying.
It looks like this was someone's pet. We were at a loss about what to do. We didn't want to go around from house to house on Christmas night: "Is this your cat?" We didn't recognise it, though I think I might have seen it around once or twice. We couldn't very well leave it in our front yard.
The Hub put it in an Avon box and hopes it stays cold enough outside til he can figure out whose cat it was - we're hoping to see "Lost" signs go up at which point we can contact the person and let them know we have the remains. If it gets warm but the ground is too hard we won't have any choice but to put it out with the trash. Fabulous.
I can't imagine the why the person who did this didn't take responsibility for it. You can't NOT know when you've hit a cat - this was a BIG cat! I know it was Christmas, but even if nobody in the neighborhood was home you'd think that person would do something besides just toss it onto the nearest lawn - even if they had left the poor thing in the street the owner might have seen it ... skip down if you're faint of heart....it isn't like cat was hit and then staggered off and died in our yard - it was head first in our bushes where NOBODY was going to see it easily!!! Unless it was a flying cat there's no way it got there by itself!!
To the person who did this: Happy Freakin' Holidays you miserable, cowardly bastard!!
I understand your feelings in this matter, being such a cat lover myself. I think I wrote a story a few years back about a guy who ran over a cat and left it for dead- and then was haunted by the creature until he took responsibility for his actions- maybe real life could imitate art in this case!
There's a line in a Bob Dylan song in which one character speaks to another, saying, "Remember when you're out there trying to heal the sick-you must always first forgive them."
I don't know if that helpsr not-but good luck with the cat.
