Wanted: A New Name [Observations]
We are, apparently, one of ten families in America that gets the newspaper every day. Actually, we get two, though The Baltimore Examiner is free, we still read them both.
The County Times has a "Most Wanted" section, where they publish the names and photos of people who are high on the police department's priority list. Until a few years ago, people used to be wanted for things like failure to control their pigs or getting into disputes with their neighbors and digging up their begonias after midnight.
Now, that the population has gotten larger (and many people who want to afford decent housing may have to resort to some sort of criminal activity, anyway)....
most of the "Wanted" have actually done something pretty bad, like stiffed their innocent kids on child support ( and sneering at the camera to boot) or holding somebody up.
Still, I felt sorry for the dude at the top of the page today. A really scraggily looking fellow, he's white with blonde hair and dishwater colored eyes. He's five feet six inches tall. And his parents named him "Courtney" If I was that guy, I might be tempted to knock over a 7-11 too, just out of sheer frustration with my life.
I mean, I know that there really isn't any excuse for armed robbery, and blaming the parents is blase, but come ON! You don't have to know much about genetics to get an idea if your kid might be short or tall....if you have a son you think might, possibly, be kind of shrimpy, you need to give the kid a boost with a name like "Bruno" or "Mac" or "Stone" or something.
Anway, he ought not be that hard to catch. The poor guy looks like somebody I could outrun, even in my present health. They should search the local bars and look for a really small guy crying in his beer, on account of now not only is his picture all over the paper, everybody in the County is laughing at this name.
a song about a boy named Sue comes to mind...
