Fish Relocation [Observations]
Tomorrow is the start of another exciting work week.
The Hub is in the middle of Project Fish Relocation. The new fish tank is actually the old fish tank from the old house. That is to say, the one the previous residents of the old house left us when they moved out - along with their fish. We had never had an aquarium before then. Nor had we wanted one.
I vividly remember the day we moved in. I was standing there looking at a tank full of live fish while listening to my realtor from Massachusetts tell me....
that the people who'd bought our place up there (for a shockingly low price) wanted us to give them $100 because we'd left paint in the basement. We'd left it for them so that they could touch up the walls if they scratched anything up moving in. They were first time home buyers and tried to frame this as us leaving, I am not making this up, "hazardous waste" behind.
Those were not the days.
Incidentally, this was after settlement. They didn't want us to cash a check they had given us for something like a days rent. I remember instructing our realtor to tell them in no uncertain terms that they were out of their mind, and that if they put a stop payment on their check I was fully prepared to drive back to MA, sue them for the amount, my missed time from work, my gas, my trouble and court costs in small claims court, AND tell everybody in the neighborhood all about it.
That was the last we heard of it.
Anyhow, we took care of those fish for a long time and even added new ones in a huge 20 gallon tank, which we then dutifully brought with us when we moved over here.
Admiral and Akbarr have been living in the book shelf tank for a long time. But they have gotten really big. They're fancy gold fish. Akbarr is the one with the big bulging eyes, and by now he's so big you can tell when he's looking at you.
It's enough to put anyone off sushi. Presuming that you weren't put off sushi to begin with.
The Hub is extremely attached to his fish. They've lived a long time. He's wanted to relocate them into a larger tank for a few months, but he couldn't figure out where to put the 20 gallon tank. Finally we realized that it will fit on the half wall next to pair-a-tweeter manor and just to the left of Kendi's cage. All the birds have been watching with great interest as the tank has gotten filled up, the plants have begun to sway in the water and The Hub even added a new pottery pot so the fish have someplace to sleep. Well. That's what we think they do in there.
But we're not going to actually relocate the fish until the water cycles through the bio wheel about 24 hours and settles down to room temperature. Then the little tiny tetras will get moved out of the hex 5 tank into the bookshelf tank (after that gets thoroughly cleaned out) and the hex 5 will get stuffed up into the attic. But that will take up less space. Which is good, because it's almost time to bump around up there trying to get the Christmas decorations down.
Sigh.
In preparation for Christmas, I took a lot of stuff up to WAM and re-did the booth. Though it still needs more work. The month of October was the worst month I've ever had for sales. I don't really know why that was. Maybe other vendors had better Halloween displays than me. But I don't really think that was the reason. I mean, it's true that other vendors did have much better Halloween displays than I did, since they probably don't hate Halloween and I do.
Actually, if it weren't for Thanksgiving and New Years Eve I could probably just hibernate from now until Easter.
are the fishies happy in their new home? or are they staring at you as if to say, "I didn't sign up for moving! not right before the holidays! what were you THINKing!"
