"...for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter..." --Ecclesiastes 10:20

Who is this mysterious winged creature? Light hearted as the air, she laughes at world, the wise, and herself - but watch out if you tread on the humble or the meek. You may find This Winged Creature has told the matter...

Amnesia Grips Office: Film at Eleven [Observations]

People who have a lot of pictures of themselves on their desk worry me. I mean, okay, if you have one of you and your spouse that happened to turn out well, or one that's basically your kids that you happened to get into....but this one dude has ALL these photos with him front and center. And another guy has a bunch of him playing the guitar. As if to say "By day I'm a mild mannered underwriter but at night I become....a Rock Star!"

Or maybe they forget where they sit. It's possible that they're in worse shape than I am.

I'm pretty much judgmental about this kind of thing. I think people who keep lots of pics of themselves -- or excessive quantities of personal kitsch that has no relation to work nor even any apparent function -- are just dying for everyone to come ask what all the stuff is, just so they can tell you how cool they are. They must advertise to the world who/what they REALLY believe themselves to be, because it's too difficult to face that they're doing the work they're doing.

Me? After thinking each new job was going to be more impressive than the last, that I could 'run with the big dogs' and 'make it' in departments in which i did the same work as the guys, I'm now and finally happiest being 'just a secretary!'

(hmmm...what does my judgmental attitude say about my indecision about what to put up in my new office? i have four Monet prints inherited from my predecessor, but i've considered putting up my or Geren's photography...but i can't decide, because i fear that would be seen as shameless self-promotion, even though that's not what i'm after. i just want to do my job and go home, yet enjoy what i have to look at all day on my walls while i'm there.)

Donna - in your case this is an EASY choice!! Put up your photography! Beautify the world!! Your work - and Geren's too - ought to be shamelessly promoted, self promoted, promoted by other people. Hey! People! Go over to Donna and Geren's site and buy some of their photography! It's good!

When you're in business for yourself, you have to promote yourself.

Sounds like a whole lot of judgement going on about what people like in their cubicle/office.

If you want to put something in your cube that makes you happy, takes your mind off of the drudgery, or reminds you of happy times then do it. If that's a pic of yourself (maybe from a fun party or the beach) that makes you happy then put it up.

I have pics of Jenne and I on a sunset cruise in my cube. I have a slew od Star Wars figures too. I even have a bumper sticker that says, "Don't make me release the flying monkies." You knw what people have said about it all? Either nothing, or it's been a good icebreaker to start conversations and get to know my coworkers.

SO, stop all the judgements and decorate those cubes.
