Doesn't this sweet animal seem to be smiling? Yes, he really can see well enough from under all that hair - or so I was told. This alpaca was visiting the Carroll County Humane Society during their open house...but he wasn't staying. He's an "ambassador animal" for a local large animal rescue, and my contribution to this weeks Thursday Challenge

Incidentally, if you ever happen to meet an alpaca, and would like to interact with it in a friendly way, they don't care to be petted on the head. The best thing is to come up and stroke their long necks. Unlike Llamas, they don't generally spit on you if you irritate them, but they will take off running if they're startled, and they startle easily. The funny thing is that they almost right away come back to see if you're still there and what you're doing....and they almost seem to radiate with gentleness. They're very cool animals.
