I don't know what my favorite part of the evaluation was. Could have been the part where they asked me to explain how a chiller works - because, as a dispatcher that's suddenly crucial to my roll in making sure people get where they're going. They're doing it "right" - extending my "probation" with another write up in the middle if I didn't get the hint. My boss spent a lot of time looking at her shoes.
Of course, they did have some things that were actual points on which I could improve - not unsurprising complaints about a 90 day employee. Maybe people do get put on probation for forgetting to put an address on one of 47 service calls or taking not updating the computer board "immediately". Maybe I really DON'T pay attention to details. I know I'm depressed, I'm willing to own that my concentration isn't what it used to be. But, I don't, honestly, think that's it.
Guess who's looking for a new job?

Lynn,
Send me your resume and I can forward it to our HR people for review and I will give you good reference. The company I work for is a huge insurance company and there are lots of positions here outside of software. Of course you would have to drive from Westminster to Rockville each day or move closer to this area, but the jobs here are worth it. Call me and we can talk.
Peace and MTFBWY,

Hang in there, Lynn. You can do so much better than this. This place never sounded like it was good enough for you anyway. They are a bunch of jerks who just expect everyone to shut up and take it.

Ah, working in Westminster. Brings back good memories NOT. I spent something like 3 out of the 10 years I worked there "on probation". Reasons included:
"Failure to retain information." Translation: I had a boss who hated note-taking. He once caught me taking notes when he was describing a complex process. Whammo, 90 days probation and a missed raise.
"Failure to follow the instructions of a superior." Translation: my "superior", a pregnant married woman, wanted sex. No rise equalled no raise, and another 90 day probation.
"Roaming about with papers pretending to do work." Translation: I have never figured this one out. My job at the time involved running a lot of copies, so I guess someone got irritated at me and filed a complaint. Who knows? This was a doozy, too: 180 days.
"Performing work outside of job description AND failure to follow the instructions of a superior." Translation: Although I was explicitly forbidden from using the print machine, a manager who sat near me insisted that I run prints for him. I ran prints for him and was noticed while doing it. Afterwards I told him that I could no longer run prints and he promptly complained to the Vice-President. I lost my position and almost my job over this one, but I avoided probation.

NOOOOOO, you do not want to move into Northern Virginia. No, no, no! Emphatically NO! There are good jobs working for good people in Maryland. You just need to get out of Carroll County, or at the very least get a job outside of Carroll and Baltimore Counties.

It's not a bad place-except for the killer traffic! Lot and lots of jobs here, too.

imho, i think they're looking for 'problems' just to keep from granting insurance to someone who seems to actually need it. that biz about enrolling 'only at the beginning of the month' looks like a smoke-screen to me. they see someone who needs insurance, and they're doing everything they can to not have to pay whatever meager amount is their portion of it.
they also might not be relieved if they can find a legal-appearing way to get rid of someone who doesn't let them get away with their racist comments...
you deserve more, tea.

Will, it's not THAT bad here. There are a virtually infinite number of employers and the pay is uniformly superb. We have lower taxes and less regulation. It is much easier to start a business here, and fewer "unfunded mandates"-you don't even have to have car insurance to drive. The hub could probably get someting up and kicking fast here. There are a lot of rich, lazy people who have broken stuff in their homes.
The main snags are the omnipresent awful traffic and the high cost of housing. These factors play against one another: to avoid traffic you have to pay more for housing (this is me, BTW); to get cheap housing you have to drive a lot further.

The heck with that job and those people!
That job is a mis-use of your talents anyway.
I wonder if any of those local companies that that do home care (like some of your former compeditors) need someone to do office-y or other non-lifting stuff.
Some that I found on www.seniormag.com:
Comfort Care
Genesis ElderCare
Maxim Healthcare Services
Home Instead Senior Care
Comfort Care Assisted Living, LLC
Comfort Care Medical
Comfort Keepers
Dearfield Senior Services
Tressler In-Home Care
Options For Senior America
Community Home Health of Maryland
Aging Gracefully Senior Care
Actually I used to have a very good friend who lived in Winchester, VA. It is a beautiful little town. My friend lived in an apartment in the center of town and then later in a pretty house near the White House factory.
Anyway, evil old Hecht's is always looking for people, but their benefits don't kick in for 6 months and I think that they have one of those stupid rules about when people can add medical, too. And anyway they'll be out of business at the end of the year. Heh!
