The Right Stuff [Job Outside The Box]
This is kind of like a public service announcement. It's that kind of information that someone can give you out of their experience which is unusual but which may come in handy for other people.
This is it: If you ever have to buy incontinence supplies for anyone - a friend, a senior relative, or an elderly neighbor - make sure you get the right ones. These are NOT the kind of thing that an individual who is suffering from this kind of problem wants to "make due with".
I was up working for Rev. L. and her cat today. When I'm there, that really is how I feel because "Mr. Cat" really does have facial expressions like a human being....
and after you have been in the apartment for awhile you feel like he is actually just a small fur covered man who is supervising you while you clean the kitchen floor.
I was really glad to see Rev. L come through her recent surgery okay. She just got home from the hospital though. She had friends and family come by to help her out. But she said: "Will you PLEASE get me the right Poise Pads from the drug store?! My neighbor and a family member both went and both got me the wrong thing! And it's not gonna work out. Boy, am I glad to see you!"
I never knew that Rev. L. used Poise Pads....that would be the point of incontinence supplies, they're supposed to allow you to be discreet. That's why it's important to get the right ones. So I went into the bathroom, looked under the sink, found the wrapper for the correct product, wrote down all the information then set out for the store, thinking that maybe these things would be really, really, really hard to find or something.
But they weren't. They were right there. So.
Then I went got the rest of the stuff on the list, got change for the laundry, picked up our lunch, went back, changed a lightbulb, heated the lunch up & served & ate ( telling the "snake in the grass story" and listening to the "male neighbor trys to help out by making instant potatoes story" for lunch time entertainment), did the laundry & folded all that up, unpacked the suitcase, got the mail, took the trash out, changed the bed, put old mail through the shredder, watered the plants, sorted coupons, swept and mopped the kitchen floor, loaded the dishwasher, cleaned out the microwave ( Wow! Beets exploded in there!!), cleaned the canister out in the vac ( it was all clogged up with cat hair - enough to make a whole new one!) , and vaccuumed the carpets and fed the cat.
But the thing she was most happy about was having the right product from the store, which is something ANYBODY could have done.
Often, my job is so easy, I feel guilty charging anything at all for it.
