"...for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter..." --Ecclesiastes 10:20

Who is this mysterious winged creature? Light hearted as the air, she laughes at world, the wise, and herself - but watch out if you tread on the humble or the meek. You may find This Winged Creature has told the matter...

Even a Turtle Gets There, Eventually [Job Outside The Box]

We had a power outage this morning just as I was finishing up my entry. Such luck!

Really high winds around here today! Power went out all over town, increasing the bummed out factor for the town cops who had to direct traffic. I guess they consider that lowly duty. I suppose it's more exciting to go out to a tremendous smash up after there wasn't anybody to direct traffic....but, I shouldn't paint the town police with such a broad brush.

Whole lot of ebayin' goin' on around here. Other than that, not much....

Mom always said I had an "eye" for antiques. I saw a creamer & sugar set in a local thrift shop, which I didn't get....but when I came home I saw it bid up on ebay for twice what the thrift shop was asking for it. At first The Hub was big into me doing a lot of research before I bought anything, even something less than $10. Now, after a couple of sucessful attempts - mostly with china and glass, areas where I have a little bit of knowledge, mostly due to the influence of my mom - his attitude has changed. "If it rings that internal Little Bird bell for you then go for it!"

So tomorrow I may go back and see if it's still there. I also got a call from a potential new client today - well, her son.

Every time I become convinced that I absolutely MUST go out and get a part time job to suppliment the business, it seems like I get a call. And this call really drove home to me that if I have that apron on - or even if I don't - I have to always be "on" when I'm in public.

The son is the only child of a lady it sounds like I would absolutely love. She's quite elderly , lives by herself, has recently agreed that she could use "a little help" but is fiercely independant, etc. Her vision is failing, but that's her only health issue.

"Where did you get my name?" I asked.

"Oh, my wife saw your flyer at one of the markets...."

It turns out that I remember his wife. She was the lady who said to me, not very pleasantly, that I had to have the managers permission before I could post an ad. So, I went to the courtesy desk, and got permission. Heck, they even gave me thumbtacks. But on the way back, I decided on one of my time honored tactics for dealing with nasty people: kill 'em with kindness.

"Thank you so much for explaining about the policy to me." I said, " I got permission and they were so nice they even gave me a couple of tacks."

"What is that?" she asked, still scowling. I presumed she meant my business, on account of most people know what thumb tacks are. So I explained, politely. I may have even given her a card, it being one of those days where I was giving cards to anybody who had a pocket.

The interview, set for next week, is from that contact! You cannot imagine how tempted I had been to just march past the woman, totally ignoring her, post my ad and go home. I had worked for Mrs. C.B. for most of that day, I was tired, I was cross and worried.

One thing being beat up in Catholic school did do for me - it gave me good control over my emmotions!

Wow. You might not sound like it, but you sure do have a lot of emotional strength!!
Also- you have more talent than you seem to give yourself credit for.

What name are you using on ebay?
Would you post a link?

Hiya Lynn,
Do you have an Uninteruptable Power Supply for your PC (AKA, UPS)? Those things are work savers when a power outage hits. You'll have five minutes on the UPS to save your work and shut down properly. They also have a surge protector built in. If you don't have one you might want to ask Santa for one.
