"...for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter..." --Ecclesiastes 10:20

Who is this mysterious winged creature? Light hearted as the air, she laughes at world, the wise, and herself - but watch out if you tread on the humble or the meek. You may find This Winged Creature has told the matter...

It's Almost Over! [Interior Life]

February: It's almost over! Not that I really enjoy March all that much more...at least you sometimes get one or two nice days. But in March you feel as if there is hope. Somewhere in there is that day on the calendar that says "First Day of Spring" and even if there's a foot of snow on the ground you just KNOW it can't last forever.

And then, usually, the robins show up. Of course, this year probably everybody will be out shooting them on account of suspecting that they have bird flu. Though birds may not even be the worrying vector anymore, now that a cat in Germany has been found dead from the H5N1 virus. Sigh.

Not withstanding the worry about the avian flu, the regular flu season will soon be over....

and people will begin to be able to get outside again. Maybe the house will show better in the spring - the yard is really nicely landscaped, but you can't tell that now, since everything is dead.

We did have an open house on Sunday. Our realtors said that three people came through and that Dr. Bunion is still expressing some interest even though he feels he really needs a little more square footage than our house offers.
Meanwhile, there was a picture in County Times of two homeless guys walking past the Methodist Church in our neighborhood. Mind you, they were walking from the center of town to someplace outside of town - but the picture was of these two guys walking up Main St. ( Deep sigh) You'd have never known they were homeless if the caption hadn't said so. They look like a lot of homeless people do - like any body else. Still, it wasn't exactly great advertising.

Maybe as there gets to be more daylight the feeling of lethargy that has been overcoming me lately will ease up. It isn't as if I don't have anything to do. It's more like the Russian proverb "I have so much to do I believe I will go to bed" - overwhelmed. For instance, when I try to work on the taxes.....ugh!! It's like a part of me goes into rebellion. "I'm not good at this! How am I supposed to figure this out? Okay, maybe I am good at it, or at least better at it then The Hub. But, you know, I'd probably be good at prostitution - that doesn't mean I OUGHT to do it. Wah!"

Still, I try to look at it a little each day. I don't want to go down to H & R Block and get whomped by some big surprise about how much we might owe. And they did a terrible job for us last year, because the tax preparer wasn't confident enough in her own knowledge to bring up things we might have written off. But, of course, they charged us full price. I thought, for goodness sake if I had that software I could do a better job than that! And I said so to The Hub. Famous last words. So, if you come by my place and find me buried under a pile of tax forms - you know what, don't even try to help me - call for professionals like CPA EMT's or something....because I'm sure I don't want to use that kind of language around my friends.

I've been using tax software for a couple of years now and it's been working as well as the H&R Block people, that's for sure. With far less hassle. Contrary to their ads, those guys do not try to get you a bigger refund...they are just using a tax program too! Good luck with your taxes and your house-selling! Spring is coming!

We use "Compassionate Tax Service" in Reisterstown. They're really people.

What a spaz I can be sometimes! :)
I meant to type "really nice people".

well, given some of the accounting types I've met I understood what you meant the first time!

this is my second year using turbo tax, and it's working just fine so far. this year we've got 4 Schedule C's! (not a lot of money, just a lot of forms!) My 2004 taxes were a bit complex because I was writing off the remainder of some settlement costs, but the software asked me the questions, I answered, and it wasn't too hard to do.

So, that said, give us a call with any questions and you know we'll be willing to tell you everything we know (that may be not be saying much, but we'll sure try!)
