"...for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter..." --Ecclesiastes 10:20

Who is this mysterious winged creature? Light hearted as the air, she laughes at world, the wise, and herself - but watch out if you tread on the humble or the meek. You may find This Winged Creature has told the matter...

Hair Today....Gone Tomorrow [Interior Life]

I can't stand it any more!

I'm getting my hair cut. A lot

This statement has been met with a lot of consternation from people who know me, but my mind is made up. I broke the news to The Hub last week.

The Hub is very attached to my hair - or at least to the idea of it being long. And, for the past 4 years or so, I've let it grow for him. But I've had it. As much as I love The Hub, I have gotten too tired of the constant whirling, twirling, pinning, pulling and fighting with it. The truth is, it is not easy hair to take care of.

For one thing, there's a lot of it. For another thing, to quote one of the few hairdressers who was ever able to do anything with my hair I've "Got two different people's hair on my head." That's the most apt description of my hair that I've ever heard. It is as if I inherited from my mother thick heavy and wavey hair which is really quite dark brown with threads of red throughout ( though Mom's hair is black, or so dark brown it's nearly black) and from my father or I inherited a sort of "top coat" cascading down from the crown of my head in all directions, stick straight, fine, ash blonde hair which will bleach in the sun to almost platinum. Left to its own devices, this is a head of hair that can, and does, frequently look really weird.

The "top coat" won't hold curl. The "undercoat" won't straighten. Back in the 80's when "big hair" was the thing, I used to simply get the top of my hair permed and leave the rest of it alone! The hairdresser I had at the time, a guy, marvelled that this would work - and it was WAY cheaper than those "spiral perms" that were all the rage. Worse yet these two competing hair types grow at different rates of speed undoing any "precision" haircuts in record time. The "undercoat" grows a lot faster than the "top coat".

This go round of long hair has been aided by the popularity of the "messy bun" - that would be the ONLY type of bun I can get my hair to do! But nothing lasts forever...except water staying in my hair. If I wash it in the morning and put it up in a "messy bun" or some other upsweep at the end of the day - we're talking midnight here, folks - it will still be wet in places when I take it down. Not sorta damp, but actually wet. I never blow my hair dry - it could take years. This leads me to creepy speculation about weather or not my hair could actually get moldy. It makes me wonder if I don't have Selkie ancestry ( though, presumabebly, that would have resulted in me knowing how to swim..... or not. Messed up hair AND cryptozoological genetic problems. Hmmm)

I've reached the conclusion that I just don't want to invest the time in fooling with it any more. So, it's hair today, gone tomorrow!

In the 80's and even the 90's I did all kinds of crazy rolled hair do's. Once I even did a cute little bee-hive. I got so many compliments in it!

My hair would be damp inside the rolls, sometimes for hours, but it helped if I took it down once or twice during the day.

Anyway, if the Hub likes your hair so much, you can hand it to him after you get it cut! ;)

Is it long enough to donate to "Locks of Love"?
