"...for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter..." --Ecclesiastes 10:20

Who is this mysterious winged creature? Light hearted as the air, she laughes at world, the wise, and herself - but watch out if you tread on the humble or the meek. You may find This Winged Creature has told the matter...

Gloating, Just a Little []

Somebody finally got what they deserved. Not a person, per se, but a company. The one The Hub worked for before he lost his job. The one that often wouldn't pay it's independant drivers until they were on the verge of getting sued, the one where everybody spewed foul abusive and obscene language at one another as if they were saying "pass the salt", the one where the managers all sat down at the local dive bar and made decisions when they were drunk off their asses and cheated on their wives with the waitresses. That trucking company has lost the business at the Jessup Rail Terminal and will be gone ( no doubt leaving a pile of unpaid bills in their wake) by Sept 13. And good riddence!

Not that The Hub is, in any regard, looking to go back in to the trucking industry. He is a little worried about keeping the business going as well in the winter, when there is not so much outside work to be done, but he has no intention of giving up the handyman business that is working so well for him. And his friend from WEB class called him about some insurance, so there may be some good news in the works.

But about the demise of Demon Trucking, I can't help but feel more satisfied than I ought to. I always have believed "as yea give so shall yea receive" or "what goes around comes around"....I wish I could just nod sagely at the news and say, "well, that's the way of the world." But, truthfully, I was so happy I went out and bought a bottle of wine to celebrate.

As for the outcome of my conversation with Bill The Tile Guy this morning it went like this: I agreed to dedicate two full days a week to working leads for him and to make at least 10 sales calls a week. He agreed to pay me a base salary and an industry standard commission. We agreed that I would do this for 6 months. I told him that it was not my life's goal to rep tile. He told me he, of all people, understood the driving ambition to have one's own business. He said he knew that I would work hard at the project. I said I knew I could count on him to treat me right. It was about as good as an oral contract can get. Bill is a very honest, ethical man: he doesn't want me to go out to these potential accounts and "say anything". He's bringing in another line from Spain, so I'll have more than the Panaria to show people...though the Panaria is beautiful in and of itself and I'm proud to rep it.

All I can do now is see how it goes.
