"...for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter..." --Ecclesiastes 10:20

Who is this mysterious winged creature? Light hearted as the air, she laughes at world, the wise, and herself - but watch out if you tread on the humble or the meek. You may find This Winged Creature has told the matter...

Hatchling Emergency! [Gardening]

It's almost 11:00 and Birda isn't back in the nest yet!! The hatchlings are still in there, huddled together for warmth.

What could be wrong? Could she possibly be out looking for food at this hour? There IS a full moon.

I hate stuff like this. I knew I shouldn't have Gotten Attached. That's my trouble with everything - I Get Attached. Dammit.

Could she have just stopped for a rest? Why should I assume she got eaten by a cat or hit by a car? Maybe she'll come back.

It's 60 degrees...well above freezing forecast for all night, but I know that the hatchlings rely on Birda for warmth - and they certainly rely on her for food.

"Man, I am way bummed." said The Hub, just now.

Well. We ought to wait until tomorrow to see what happens. Maybe she is just off on some wierd expedition known only to robins. I hope the hatchlings will survive overnight.

That'll give me time to do internet research on how to care for abandoned birds.
I know somebody's going to say that I shouldn't get involved, that this is the law of the jungle, survival of the fittest ( or the luckiest ), that it's against the Prime Directive.

But this isn't the jungle or the Enterprise, it's my house.....and you know that if she doesn't come back we're going to Get Involved.

*** Birda Update***

Boy, what DID we do without the internet? I just learned that mother robins start to roost in trees when the babies are about a week old because the nest is crowded ( and it is. They were all kinda sticking out of it last night) Phew. So I don't have to sweat it unless we don't see Birda tomorrow, but chances are we will.

Anybody know anything about bird care?

I am fully convinced, Tea, that in any situation, you can always find an emergency. ;-)

Hehe, yup.

Anyway, you could contact a wildlife rescue for information.
