"...for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter..." --Ecclesiastes 10:20

Who is this mysterious winged creature? Light hearted as the air, she laughes at world, the wise, and herself - but watch out if you tread on the humble or the meek. You may find This Winged Creature has told the matter...

"Professional Daughter" [Feedback Requested]

I'm thinking of changing the name of All Around the House, Unlimited. It woudn't be too hard, since I have only 200 cards in that name and a few flyers. All my customers just think of me as me.

Last night The Hub and I were driving back from the CMPG meeting and he was talking about a friend of his mother's, who, in his opinion is too far away for me to solicit as a client, but needs a lot of help.

"What kind of help does she need?" I asked, trying to feel the situation out a little bit.

"Oh, you know. Everything you do... clean the place up, make sure there's some nutritious food in the place, ride to the doctors every now and then....you know, a professional daughter."

I wonder if his off the cuff "Professional Daughter" would make a better, more describtive name for my services. I asked the kids I drive home from camp. They didn't like it. The 12 year old said it "lacked dignity" ( she's a very mature, responsible 12 year old) the 10 year old said it "sounds weird". Still, since you all are the only thing close to a focus group I have I'm asking you guys: What do you think?

There's something about "Professional Daughter" that just doesn't sit right with me. Can't put my finger on it. I like what you have. It has a more descriptive feel to it... if that makes any sense to anyone but me. Unless you feel a real desire to change your business name, I say stick with what you got and develop local name recognition.

I would cast another "nay" vote on the new name. It sounds too much like "Rent-A-Friend"-I've herad there are actually people who are paid to visit chronically ill people in the hospital or nursing home. As volunteer work that sounds good-as something you have to pay somebody to do it doesn't sound right. The service you provide is more extensive than volunteer work, and in the bargain your clients get the caring efforts and consideration of a friend as an extra. I'm at a loss to prose a new name for your business, but what is it people really want to do? They want to save time and effort. I'd think a description of ALL AROUND THE HOUSE as a service which allows you to "buy time for yourself" or "treat yourself to time off-let me take care of those chores and problems which rob your time," or "Personal time management coordiantor" might be good selling points.

How about "Caring Hands Around Your House"?
Or "Caring Hands for Hire". I liked Rick's comments about using the time management angle, though, too. Maybe a subtitle thingy would help, or a new advertizing tactic. "Doesn't everyone need a little help now and then?" "Friendly, caring woman for hire to do the things around the house that you need done right, but don't always have the time or ability to do yourself." Think about writing up different ads for different demographic areas. In an affluent area, push the time management angle. In an area with more elderly, push the loving, caring hands, daughter-for-hire angle. In an area with a lot of kids, push the time-for-yourself angle.

I'm a little late at the gun on this one, but I agree too. I like AATH better, sounds much more professional.

I get where you're coming from though. I believe there's a landscaping company in Calgary, and I think it's female owned and operated, and it's called Hire-A-Husband. I liked that because it's tongue in cheek and clever, given the nature of the company.

For you though, I'd stick with AATH, or something more around those lines. Seems more in line with the professional image you want to cultivate.
