"...for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter..." --Ecclesiastes 10:20

Who is this mysterious winged creature? Light hearted as the air, she laughes at world, the wise, and herself - but watch out if you tread on the humble or the meek. You may find This Winged Creature has told the matter...

Today's Horoscope: "Don't Talk!" [Dog Blog]

winston and the big bone 5 copy.jpg

Winston, who seems to have self appointed himself as my therapy dog, rose to the occassion again the night before last. The Hub had gone to bed, and I was getting ready. As I came out of the bathroom, I could feel the pressure in my ears change and I was overcome with a wave of dizziness. Winston was dozing by the front door, but he leapt to his feet like he'd been shot out of a cannon, came over and stood in front of me. I could see him bracing on his front feet. The dog, apparently, is smarter than I am and could see what was coming. I reached out to steady myself on a chair back, but didn't make that....

I fell right on the dog! He didn't make a sound...just lowered himself with my my ( not inconsiderable) dead weight on his back, then slipped out from under me and charged up the stairs to get The Hub. Meanwhile, I was just kinda laying there on the floor thinking "Ugh, you know, I don't feel good. I think I'll just lay here a minute" and trying to get my other ear to pop or something. I hate it when my ears do that because it also makes me extremely nauseated and, if I move around too much, I'll toss my cookies creating a genuine mess besides the confusion of passing out. ( I wasn't really, exactly, unconcious. I was just sort of "vertically challenged")

Anyway, The Hub came grumbling down the stairs, thinking Winston was just bugging him to be let out, saw what was going on, set me up in a chair, etc. Winston stayed out of his way the whole time, just sitting patiently by the door. He's an amazing dog - he really is. He seems unhurt from me landing on him, and I don't have as much as a bruise. It's as if I never fell.

If I had it to do over again, I would not have gotten Winston nuetered, but would have tried to breed him with another dog who had similar "talents" in hopes that great therapy dogs could come into being for other people. But, like many people, his talents did not show up especially early in his life. In fact, when he was a puppy his main talent seemed to be bumping into things and smashing bric-brac with his tail.

This photo is of him getting ready to enjoy a treat courtesy of Theresa, who sent him a three foot long rawhide chewey - a big bone for a big dog! Thanks Theresa!

In other news, I read my horoscope in the newspaper this morning and had to resist the urge to go back to bed! In a nutshell, it said I was going to say something insulting to someone I care about and that there was probably nothing I could do about it! So, if I left a comment on your blog that seemed sarcastic I didn't mean it that way, if I said something hurtful I didn't mean it, and...if you're offended by my "Nothing Accomplished - Defeat Bush in '04" bumper sticker, well, I hope we can agree to disagree. Does that work as a blanket, all purpose, apology? After all, I'm a peace loving Libra - hurting someone elses feelings is like a tragedy to me!

If you hadn't neutered him, the testoterone probably would have masked his sensitive nature. Glad you are OK.

I'm glad you're okay too. Is it some kind of inner ear malfunction? I, too, recently had a semi-bad bout with inner-ear issues and kept falling into things and looking for the most part like I was drunk. I didn't fall all the way down though. Does this happen a lot? I certainly hope not! But I've read incredible stories about dogs and how they are so much more intuitive about things than we are! Never underestimate the power of a pooch!

Hooray for Winston. We need to sew Winston a "Therapy Dog" vest so that you can take him with you everywhere! Are you okay now? Is that inner ear & falling thing something the doctor can fix? I thought that Dr. Backcracker fixed the falling thing. Usually people with as many aliments as you have are nurses. You'ld make an awesome nurse. You're so into helping people.
