Life Without Tweeters [Bird Blog]
This is a really hard adjustment to make in our house. No tweeters.
It's too quiet in here....and I'm a fan of quiet. Really, I am. I've never been one of those people to have the t.v. on all the time or play the radio mindlessly. For all that the parakeets could get really loud at times, especially in the morning, they mostly provided a very soothing background chatter.
When I was out on disability, I'd have lost my mind without the company of the animals.....
and I think Kendi and Winston miss the parakeets as much as we do. Winston keeps sniffing the area where their cage used to be and looking around, confused. Of course, Winston spends a lot of time looking around, confused, but he seems especially bummed out to not be able to locate his chirping buddies. K-Bird has no one to flap and squawk at as part of her before bed routine. She climbs to the top of her cage and looks over there and can't seem to figure it out.
Though we've been leaving the radio on through the day for her, she seems a lot more wound up when we get home from work. Birds need a lot of stimulation, and they do entertain each other: that's why so many people keep multiple birds of different species. But I just can't face the idea of getting new parakeets, especially since it's not clear what caused them to get sick in the first place.
The Hub buried them together, beak to beak, in the back garden and put a little ceramic garden angel over top of them (so we don't accidentally dig them up when we're planting in the spring) That's one of the things I love about The Hub. He really does have a romantic streak.
Maybe we'll be able to move forward: he suggested getting some love birds or a cockatiel. But I'm just not there yet. It's weird how attached you can get to a couple of parakeets. Thankfully, K-Bird seems unaffected by whatever illness carried off the pair-a-tweeters. If anything happens to her I'll be beside myself.
i was wondering how long it would take for The Hub to suggest getting a cockatiel!
It's a lovely idea having the pair-a-tweeters beak-to-beak (God bless The Hub!), but i can't help but wonder if it might be prudent to have the vet take a look at one of them...
you mentioned about multi-bird families, and i still think Kiah would be happy with a couple of parakeets, as would i. i think i 'get it' about their chattering.
in any case, i will be thinking of you as you try to adjust, and I'm REALLY glad to hear that Kendi is healthy!
