"...for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature tell the matter..." --Ecclesiastes 10:20

Who is this mysterious winged creature? Light hearted as the air, she laughes at world, the wise, and herself - but watch out if you tread on the humble or the meek. You may find This Winged Creature has told the matter...

It's Spring! And a Young Bird's Fancy Turns To.... [Bird Blog]

Well somebody was clearly on top of somebody in the parakeet cage the other day. We found another egg, unfortunately, broken. Since parakeets usually lay more than one egg at a time, I quickly took most of the kleenex out of the last box we had, and set it on its side inside the cage. This way, whoever's egg it is will have a soft place to lay it / sit on it or she can take the kleenex out and shred them into a nest in another corner of the cage if she wants to.

I understood what the vet said, and I know how the birds ceres look, but I can't help but thinking that the green bird, Dagwood / Dorothy is the female. I mean The Hub is a very observant man. He knows what he saw. He said the yellow bird was on top of the green one. The other thing is that poor Dagwood / Dorothy has started trembling so hard he/she is practically vibrating. It doesn't make sense to me that a male bird would be doing this just because there's an egg in the cage. Buckbeak/Blondie is not bothered, though both of them were much more resistant then usual to human contact.

I've been worried about them all day. I didn't have time to clean the cage this morning - except to remove the broken egg. It's not like it's really dirty or anything, and now I don't want to disturb the cage too much. But, at the same time, I don't want them to be stressed out by a dirty cage. I have been feeding them the best quality food I can get for them: I've stayed with those types that have a wide range of types of seed and protein and are high in calcium. They've got things as good as I can practically make them, but I'm worried that it won't be enough.

I just hate to see anybody / anything suffer....especially because of my incompetence or stupidity. Intellectually, I know that kleenex are not exactly preferred nesting material for parakeets, but it's what I had on hand. Maybe tomorrow I'll go over to Petsmart and ask for advice.

(sigh)

Maybe you should name them "Yellow" and "Green" like the M&Ms.
