Imaginary Friend? [Bird Blog]
I wonder if it's possible to have a schizophrenic parrot? I mean, I guess anything is possible.
K-bird was having quite a time on top of her cage this evening. She seemed like she was having a fight with an imaginary bird. At least I think that's what she was doing. She was sqwalking and flapping and fanning her tail feathers and leaping around on the cage top.
On the other hand, parrots can see into the infra-red spectrum, so maybe she was playing with something I can't see. Hmmm. There's a thought for you.....
A more likely explanation ( then, say, ectoplasm) is that she has a whole clump of feathers on her neck trying to come in at once. She'll hardly let me touch it, so I soaked her really good in the shower. (she looked surprised) Maybe she was doing a visualization exercise - you know, trying to fight the discomfort by visualizing it.
Maybe she's like other toddlers with an imaginary friend.
Anyway, I hope the soaking in the shower will soften up the keratin sheath of her incoming feathers to make it easier for her to deal with them. Right now she's sitting on my shoulder preening my hair. Bet that'll look great tomorrow.
