Alex Makes Newsweek! [Bird Blog]

One of my favorite people...er...birds made it into Newsweek Magazine lately. Well, okay, I think both Alex and Dr. Pepperberg are pretty cool, but I've always thought Alex might be more fun at a party. You can read a quick overview of the work of Dr.Irene Pepperberg who has done over 30 years of research with African Grey parrots in this article

By the way, how many of you think that, if Dr. Pepperberg were male the photo (on the second page) would have been cropped just a little higher up? How important is it, exactly, that we see the leg of someone who has done so much ground breaking work?

I don't think it has anything to do with her legs, but the fact that the dangly thingy with the bird's name "ALEX" extends down to mid-thigh level in frame. Crop that up to a waist-up shot and it reads "AL."

I kind of like the fact that the highly educated chick is dressed in an appealing way. She's showing a bit of leg.
